Border Force Heathrow Airport Security Staff to Strike Over Outsourcing

Hundreds of Staff to Walk Out from Aug 31 to Sep 3

Hundreds of Border Force staff at Britain's biggest airport Heathrow will strike from Aug 31 to Sep 3 - a peak travel period for hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers.

The strikes are taking place over the next two weeks with the first one already under way.

Staff at the UK's biggest airport are staging a series of walkouts over pay and conditions.

The 650 members of the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union will walk out from 4am on August 31 until 4am on September 3.

Unite said 800 of its members plan to strike from 7 to 26 August.

The strikes are likely to cause disruption to passengers as they will mean longer queues and delays at passport control.

Heathrow Airport has said it is "disappointed" by the decision to strike and is "working closely with airlines to minimize disruption.".

Steps to avoid disruption:

*
  • Arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before your flight.
  • *
  • Check in online and print your boarding pass at home.
  • *
  • Have your passport and travel documents ready.
  • *
  • Be prepared for long queues and delays.
  • *
  • Be aware of the strike dates and avoid traveling if possible.
